Maya Gabeira

Maya Gabeira used to go to the beach just to tan. She was 14, living in Rio de Janeiro and dating a surfer dude. She would watch from the shore as he carved up the ocean. "I'd see him coming in with that big smile, all soaked, and I'd feel like I was missing out on something," she says. "So with his support, I started surf school."

Within about 3 years, Gabeira had moved to Hawaii to pursue surfing professionally. Now 24, she holds the women's world record for the largest wave ever surfed, a 45-footer in South Africa.

She has won four consecutive Billabong XXL Big Wave awards and an ESPY; she is arguably the most well rounded female big wave surfer in the world.

CLAIRE BEVO BEVILACQUA

Claire Bevilacqua (29 January 1983) (nickname "Bevo") is a professional surfer from Perth, Australia. Her mother is Australian while her father is Italian. In 2003, she was crowned as the Australian Junior Women's Champion. In 2005, she joined the World Championship Tour (WCT) of the Association of Surfing Professionals, finishing with a 10th ranking.^[1] Since turning pro she has won several competitions including The Outer Banks Pro in North Carolina, The Hello Kitty Boardfest at Huntington Beach, California^[2] and the 2009 Pipepline Pro.^[3] Bevilacqua finished the 2006 WCT season with a #6 ranking. Bevilacqua was also voted onto the Nixon Surf Team

From The Twins:

We were born and raised in Santa Cruz, CA by our parents, Rym and Winnie Partridge. Our parents instilled a love and respect for the ocean in both of us at an early age. We were swimming literally before we could walk and surfing on our own by age 9. Shortly after we began competing and representing companies like Hobie, Ocean Minded and Betty Belts.

Surfing has given us the opportunity to not o...nly travel to beautiful locations for photo shoots but also spread awareness. We have been fortunate enough to be surf instructors for Oneill's Out of Bounds program in Holland and Belgium where we got to teach sight impaired child how to surf for the very first time. Last year with our sponsor Betty Belts we had the chance to visit the East Bali Poverty Project.

We strive to promote our active lifestyles of surfing, healthy eating, and helping promote a positive body image, animal abuse awareness, environmental issues, sustainability & social injustices.

We are also both students at the University of California, Santa Barbara and we plan to graduate in June 2012 with our Bachelor's of Arts degrees in Communication.
